Five burglaries at Sancoale keep Verna police on toes

VASCO: A series of property offences reported at Upasnagar in Sancoale during the late hours on Monday kept the Verna police on their toes on Tuesday. Burglars broke into five houses on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and decamped with gold ornaments and cash from three houses; they drew blank in two other houses, as there were no valuables in them. 
In the first case, reported by one Vitthal Rathod, resident of L-118, Housing Board colony at Upasnagar, unknown burglars entered into his house by breaking the main door latch and decamped with gold ornaments worth 1.25 lakhs and cash of Rs 25,000 which was kept in the safe locker inside a cupboard. No one was present in the house at the time of incident as Rathod and his wife had gone to meet his in-laws.
In the second case, a house located few meters away from that of Rathod’s was broken into by unknown burglar who decamped with gold and cash all worth over 1.75 lakh. The house owner Rupesh Naik complained that the culprits gained entry into his house by breaking open the main door latch. At the time of the offence, Naik and his family members were out of the house.
Third incident was reported in the house of one Gajanan Naik, resident of Merces Plaza, near Queeny Hotel in Upasnagar. Incidentally, Naik as well his wife were present in the house and were sleeping in the bedroom when some unknown robbers gained access to the house using balcony door which was left open by the complainant by mistake. Gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh have been reportedly robbed.
In the wake of three burglaries on the same night and same locality, Verna police have now intensified patrolling in other residential areas under its jurisdiction, after launching a huge operation to nab the culprits responsible for the three burglaries.
