PONDA: The five-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebration culminated in Adpoi, Ponda with the traditional idol immersion procession on Tuesday.

It may be recalled that last year, the celebration was low key, without a float procession.

Adpoi has a unique and traditional joint celebration during the five-day Ganesh idol immersion as a float procession depicting mythological figures is organised by around 17 families (kutumbs) from the village that attracts large crowd from across the State.

Saluting COVID warriors, a Ganesh festival tableau created awareness on COVID vaccination.

The grand five-day Ganesh celebration this year with traditional float procession was held following COVID safety norms

“Last year there were no floats but this year it was a grand float procession,” said Prashant Naik from Adpoi.

North Goa MP and Union Minister Shripad Naik’s family is among these families that join the annual celebration.

“The village has unique tradition as these families residing across the State unite as one family to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi each year,” said panch Mashal Adpoikar.

On the fifth day of idol immersion, these 17 families prepare equal number of floats based on mythological figures wherein the idol of each family is carried on each float during the procession.

The family members dance to the tune of drums chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, “Jay Vithal” and sing bhajans. The idols were immersed in the Zuari River.
