Five held for lockdown violation, released

PERNEM: Pernem police on Thursday arrested the founder and four other members of Revolutionary Goans for violating the prohibitory order imposed under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They were later released on bail.

The arrested are Manoj Parab (the founder) and members Alex D’Souza, Milton D’Souza both from Chandel, Richard Mascarenhas from Hasapur and Vishesh Naik from Adpai in Ponda. All five of them are booked under Sections 269 and 188 of IPC.

According to police, Pernem Deputy Collector informed to the police that a group of people affiliated to Revolutionary Goans have gathered at Teliwada in Chandel at 7.30 pm on Wednesday and holding a meeting in violation of Section 144 in force. 

Immediately, a police team rushed to the spot and on seeing the police, accused ran towards the jungle and escaped. On questioning the locals, police reportedly learnt that a group of members of Revolutionary Goans including its founder had gathered at the spot in violation of Section 144. Acting on the information, police arrested the members of Revolutionary Goans on Thursday.
