Five MMC staff, security guard test COVID positive

MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council staff and the regular visitors are on the edge as more staff was detected COVID positive. 

There are six active cases attached to the MMC as on Monday. Incidentally, the security guard who sprayed the sanitiser and checked the temperature of the staff and visitors too has been found positive. 

While the MMC was absorbing the shock of three of their staff being found positive, three more cases of staff having tested positive have come to the fore. One of them is the security guard on the main door, who was responsible for spraying sanitiser and checking temperatures of the staff and visitors. 

On Monday, several staff of the municipality refused to enter into the premises as they had to clue whether the premises was sanitised or not. Sanitary Inspector Viraj Arabekar soon after the initial three cases had got the premises sanitised. 

He said, “As Saturday was a holiday, I got the offices sanitised on the same day.” 

“I informed the staff about the sanitisation and later they agreed to enter the premises,” said Viraj. 

Meanwhile, the Shadow Council for Margao has written to both Chairperson Pooja Naik and Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar requesting for the screening/COVID testing for the municipal staff.
