Five months past, PwD yet to get DSSS monthly stipend

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued notices to the State government and Director of Social Welfare Department over nonpayment of monthly stipend through Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS), to Persons with Disability (PwD) in the State for the last five months.

The notices have been issued based on a communication received through Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) alleging nonpayment of monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 to around 12,000 beneficiaries eligible under the scheme. The Bench has taken up the matter as a Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation.

The notices are returnable on February 1, when the respondents are expected to submit their replies to the High Court.
