Five students injured after four vehicles collide at Raia

Police have booked the driver of the minibus proceeding from Santemol for rash driving

MARGAO: Five minor students of a local school were injured in an accident involving four vehicles– two minibuses, one car and a scooter.

The accident, according to Maina Curtorim police, took place near Santemol, Raia, on Friday evening when the students were travelling in the two minibuses along with other passengers.

Assistant sub-inspector Uday Velip rushed to the accident spot with a police team. He said that five students who were injured were taken to South Goa District Hospital at Margao for treatment.

Police said that one minibus was proceeding from  Santemol towards Raia with some students, while the other minibus, and the car and the scooter were proceeding in the opposite direction when there was a collision between them.

Police said that the driver of the minibus proceeding from Santemol to Raia suddenly applied brakes, and collided with the other minibus,  and five students seated in both the minibuses suffered injuries. The Alto car and scooter, that were behind the minibus also crashed into it and suffered damage. Police have recorded the statement of the injured children and have registered an offence against the minibus driver who was proceeding from  Santemol to Raia.

Police said that based on the complaint, an offence under Sections 279 and 337 of IPC has been registered against the driver. Police have conducted the panchama.
