MOPA: In a major fire that broke out on Wednesday at the International Mopa Airport site, five transportation tipper trucks gutted causing loss in lakhs of rupees.
According to information obtained from Pernem Fire Station in charge Namdev Parmar, the control room received a call at 12.50 hours informing that dry grass has caught fire.
Immediately a team rushed to the spot. Upon reaching it was found that trucks are at blaze. Immediately fire fighting operation commenced and simultaneously, reinforcement was sought from Mapusa Fire Station.
After fighting for more than two hours, the fire teams managed to douse off the fire completely. In the fire, five trucks under registration number GA-03-AH-3056, GA-03-AH-3057, GA-04-T-2392, GA-04-T-1763 and GA-01-Z-4300 gutted while the teams managed to save six trucks, transformer, generator and other equipment’s.
The fire team was headed by Pernem fire station officer Namdev Parmar, sub officer Sunil Desai, leading fire station Fatu Naik, fire fighters Vithal Parab, Ratan Parab, Dhananjay Vast, Alvares Mascarenhas, leading fire fighter Pramod Mahale, fire fighters Emprimo Dias, Vishnu Naik and Vasudev Tate.
Sources informed that the trucks that gutted in fire were parked at a location close to the dry grass and since they were parked close to each other, the fire spread from one truck to another. The cause of fire is not yet identified however it is suspected to be due to short circuit. It is also suspected that initially the dry grass caught fire further spreading to the parked trucks.
