PORVORIM: The Reis Magos ZP constituency will see five candidates – BJP’s Rupesh Naik, Francis Colaso, sitting ZP member Jayesh Salgaonker, Michael Dias and Rajesh Dabholker.
BJP candidate Rupesh Naik, a businessman having two factories, one each at Pillerne Industrial area and Bicholim is the candidate of the Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar, who has been personally canvassing for him.
Builder and social worker Francis Colaso had contested the last assembly election as an independent candidate but was defeated. He enjoys the support of former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernades. Francis Colaco stated that Fernandes and Congress spokesperson Yatish Naik are also canvassing for him and he is hopeful of being elected.
Once close to Fernandes, North Goa ZP chairman Jayesh Salgoankar is now fighting a lone battle. He has been speaking out against the policies of the government including the decision to have the elections on party lines pushing through a resolution against it. He has also resisted pressure to join the BJP when the present government came to power. During his tenure as ZP member he has done some developmental works and has built up a good reputation.
Rajesh Dabholker is a social worker and is supported by Tulio D’Souza, Porvorim MLA Rohan Kaunte combine, while Michael Dias is an independent.
The BJP candidate Rupesh Naik has already covered the whole constituency and his strong party cadre have stood him in good stead till date.
