MARGAO: Human Touch Foundation held flash mobs across the State to mark ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on June 24. The programme was held in collaboration with Goa Police and Narcotics Control Bureau, Goa Zone.
At the inaugural flash mob at KTC Panjim, Jaspal Singh, Director General of Police, who graced the programme as chief guest congratulated the young people who came forward to create awareness about substance abuse and said that these types of programmes are cost-effective and essential for building resilience and empower youth to be more aware about their health. Agnelo Fernandes, Commissioner, Corporation of City of Panaji also attended the programme.
Effective prevention includes the promotion of health as well as social well-being with more focus on young people, said Nishigandha Deshpande, Lead, Drug Demand Reduction at Human Touch Foundation.
The flash mobs were conducted at Calangute Beach, Anjuna Beach, Mapusa Bus Station, Vasco City, Margao KTC Bus Station and Colva Beach. Students of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna performed at the flashmob.
The outreach was conducted under Yes to Life Campaign, an initiative of Human Touch Foundation, supported by United Nation’s Office on Drugs and Crime and Drug Abuse Prevention Centre.
