Flashback 2017: Lewd remarks, a female friend, jail term and a murder

Episode of stray lewd remarks at mutual female friend led to a jail term for Tyron Nazareth and his murder four days after his release

Mapusa: Like entire Goa, Tyron Nazareth too was enjoying in the revelry of Sao Jao on June 24, 2017 along with his family and friends. But little did he know that the fun-filled day would soon end with his life.

On May 3, when Nazareth along with his female friend and other friends were sitting at a hotel in Calangute on the day of Sao Joao, a purported history-sheeter named Joseph Ismail Sequeira allegedly started passing lewd remarks at Nazareth’s female friend, to which the latter took offence and an argument ensued between the two men. The spat escalated into a fight, which led to Tyron stabbing Joseph. Incidentally, Nazareth and accused Sequeira had a mutual female friend.

After this incident, Tyron was arrested, along with other accused persons.  On June 20, 2017, Tyron Nazareth was released from jail. Four days later, on June 24, 2017, Tyron was stabbed to death by Joseph Sequeira and his two accomplices, Ceon Fernandez and Mahesh Rampal in the Calangute fish market.

On Tuesday, the trio were found guilty of assaulting and murdering Tyron Nazareth by Additional District Court-I judge, Kshama Joshi. The family of Nazareth expressed happiness after a court convicted the trio.

“We were shattered and shocked when I heard that my brother who was a while ago with me, was brutally murdered. We had given up hope and were ready to hear that the culprits would go free but our faith in the almighty lord sent us a saviour in the form of Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi. He and his team worked day and night and not only got the culprits arrested but also recovered the weapons,” sister of deceased Tyron Nazareth said.

“His investigation was such that there were no loopholes for the culprits to go scot-free. Our thanks go to all the Public Prosecutors that Adv Francis Naronha, Adv Sunita Nagvekar, Adv Anuradha Talaulikar and Adv Roy D’Souza, who argued so well that the culprits were not even granted bail. We are very happy with the way the Calangute police team carried out the investigation. With such officers, I personally feel that no one can be denied justice. Satyamev Jayate,” she said.

SDPO Jivba Dalvi, who was then investigating officer, said, “The investigation of the case was challenging since within four hours, the victim was dead. Also, by the time the case reached the trial, most of the eyewitnesses were not there. However, their statements were already recorded before the judge. Overall, all the witnesses cooperated.”

“People, especially youths who get involved in criminal activities who feel that they are free once they get bail, should understand that thorough investigation can lead them to life imprisonment.  They should understand that they cannot go away from the clutches of the law and judiciary and must take a lesson from this case, which has got to its logical conclusion,” the Police Officer said.

“The youths getting involved in crime should give up these activities and live a responsible life,” Dalvi said.
