MARGAO: The bust of late Floriano Vaz, who fell victim to the police bullets during the Konkani language agitation, was damaged by unknown miscreants at the Gogol Traffic junction.
President of the South Goa Scheduled Tribes Association Camilo Barretto told the media that miscreants vandalised the bust late night when plans were being chalked out to remember late Floriano on his death anniversary later this month. “We fail to understand why the miscreants have damaged the bust when the Margao Municipal Council has adopted a resolution to install Floriano’s bust at the Gogol junction”, he said.
Saying that late Floriano had sacrificed his life for the Konkani language when he fell victim to the police bullets at the height of the language agitation, Camilo demanded that the government should provide a job to the family of the victim at the earliest. “It will be three decades since Floriano died after he was shot dead by the police at the height of the language agitation. Successive governments have only shed crocodile tears to the Konkani Martyr and paid lip service to the long pending demand for a government job to a member of Floriano’s family”, Camilo added.
