PONDA: The Election Commission flying squad briefly stopped the MGP from holding a meeting in Savitri Hall at Ponda, on Friday. However, the meeting was allowed to be held after “higher ups” gave permission for the same.
As MGP leaders Sudin Dhavalikar and Lavoo Mamledar and party supporters had gathered at the hall and were about the start the meeting, the flying squad consisting of Chandrashekar and Manoj Yadav entered the hall and order the gathering to disperse.
Dhavalikar informed the flying squad that he has permission for holding the meeting, but they did not relent. However, as Dhavalikar was trying to convince the flying squad to allow the meeting to go ahead, one of the members reportedly received a phone call from “higher ups” instructing them to allow the meeting.
Reacting to the incident, Mamledar alleged that MGP’s rivals were unnecessarily troubling them by “falsely” complaining against them.
He said that the party had taken permission for the meeting.
On his part, Dhavalikar said that he had obtained permission for the meeting eight days ago.
Meanwhile, addressing the meeting, Dhavalikar asked the BJP to introspect as to “why people are not happy with its performance during the last five years.”
He said that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had sacked him from cabinet for only few days, “but the people are waiting to sack the BJP for five years.”
Targeting Ravi Naik for his resent allegations of corruption in Kranti Maiden renovation work, Dhavalikar alleged that Ravi had accumulated lot of property when the Congress was in power.
