NEW DELHI: The move for making Goa a helicopter manufacturing unit has begun with the Defence Ministry seeking a feasibility report from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore. While no timeline has been set for submitting the report as of now, the proposal has been taken on priority.
“We have asked HAL to examine what will be the feasibility of such a proposal in Goa. They will also place a business plan before the ministry following which further modalities will be carried out,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told a section of Goa journalists at his office in South Block, Delhi on Monday.
The Union minister had announced this plan during the ‘Goa Investment Summit — A Prelude’ in February this year. He had stated that Goa is an ideal location given the availability of necessary infrastructure.
In another step to closely know the defence forces, the Rajya Sabha MP has plans to visit India’s bordering areas. He is likely to spend around 12 days in May.
