MARGAO: Stating that the fire incident at Pilerne Industrial Estate is an eye-opener, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Wednesday urged the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to stop event management and focus on disaster management in Goa.
He also demanded a high-level inquiry under retired High Court Judge must be done of the fire at Pilerne Industrial Estate.
Appreciating the efforts of the firefighters in controlling the fire, he said that the government’s preparedness to handle such situations got completely exposed.
LoP said that in the last assembly session he had cautioned the government on the time bomb ticking at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate due to negligence of authorities on illegalities in various units.
“Fire at Pilerne has proved me right and once again exposed the compromising attitude of the authorities with the illegally operating industrial units which ultimately cause accidents”, claimed Yuri Alemao.
He said a few days back there was ammonia leakage in one of the units at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. Government just did not bother to get to the root cause of the leakage. Closure of one of the illegally operating units in the industrial estate was recommended by GSEAC after he raised an alarm. “I want to know why the Industries Department, Factories & Boilers, the Labour Department and others don’t act on their own,” questioned Yuri Alemao.
Demanding a high level inquiry in the fire incident at Pilerne Industrial Estate, the LoP said that the same committee should also be given a mandate to assess.
