PONDA: Two weeks after the Sacorda residents complained of being supplied with polluted water from the Ragada River, PWD officials finally visited the village and assured to supply tanker water to the villagers within two days.
Sacorda sarpanch Priya Khandeparkar discussed the health concerns raised by the villagers on account of the polluted water supplied to them.
The panchayat members submitted a memorandum to the officials on the issue, wherein they complained that due to wastewater released into Ragada river by a pisciculture plant operating in village, the water has turned green, which could prove harmful for consumption.
After giving a patient ear to their grievances, Executive Engineer Lester D’Souza from South Goa PWD office and other officials assured to supply tanker water to the locals within two days.
When media persons questioned the officials on the PWD’s test report, they clarified that the samples tested were that of treated water supplied to villagers which found within permissible limit. On other hand water samples tested in a lab by villagers were that of the raw water from river which was harmful for consumption purpose.
It may be recalled that the villagers had complained to the panchayat against an alleged illegal pisciculture plant operating in the village was involved in releasing wastewater into Ragada river, which is their source of drinking water.
