MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) participated in the initiative of the Food Bank Sangolda and Navtara Hotels, of providing food packets to 5000 workers all over Goa and they also distributed 300 packets in Margao to waste collection workers engaged at the baling station at old fish market, Sulabh Sauchalaya workers, Sonsoddo dump yard workers and door-to-door waste collection workers at Aquem Margao and Fatorda.
“The sole purpose of identifying the waste management workers was to appreciate their contribution towards maintaining our city clean, and to highlight the fact that the across that world Labour Day is a holiday, but the waste management workers are not as privileged,” said SCM convenor Savio Coutinho.
“While other permanent employees would earn heavy overtime allowances for services on Labour Day, the waste management daily wage workers would have to stay satisfied with the day’s wages only,” he added.
SCM wholeheartedly thanked Donald Fernandes of the Food Bank Sangolda, and all its associates for the wonderful initiative on Labour Day.
