PANJIM: The fair price shops across the State are left high and dry as there is no foodgrains in the government godowns.
As per the allocation order of the officiating Director of Civil Supplies Jayant Tari, all FPS were directed to pay for the foodgrains on or before October 31 and collect their ration quota latest by October 31.
All Goa Consumer Cooperative Society and Fair Price Shop Owners Association general secretary Gandhi Henriques said, “Sadly, till today there is no stock nor the delivery order of foodgrains are issued. No one is even able to say when the same will be available. It is a sad state of affairs.”
He said that he had paid Rs 85,000 for his November ration quota. But there is no stock in the government godowns to deliver it. According to Gandhi, of the total 452 fair price shops, only seven or eight FPS have been allocated quota making it difficult for other FPS owners how to convince the consumers as to when they should come to collect their foodgrains.
Reacting to meeting called on Monday by the Director of Civil Supplies to discuss the doorstep delivery and payment of outstanding dues of Rs one crore, Gandhi asked, “What is there to discuss? It’s the National Food Security Act, 2013 not implemented till date and all dealers are suffering.”
