PANJIM, OCT 21
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda, Margao that is hosting the third and final One-Day International cricket match slated on Sunday, will be covered with fool-proof security, Goa police said on Thursday.
Police spokesperson SP (Special Branch) Atmaram Deshpande told reporters that Goa police will provide watertight security to both Indian and Australian teams while at the stadium and place of stay.
“South Goa police and additional reserves including Indian Reserve Battalion and two companies of Central Industrial Security Force have been deployed at the venue. Considering the international status, we have ensured thorough security arrangements for both teams till their presence here,” said the officer.
Sources said that hundreds of police personnel in plain clothes will be among the spectators to spot any trouble makers.
Dog squad teams will also be deployed throughout the match in and outside the stadium. Besides, CCTVs, Door Frame Metal Detectors have been installed and every spectator will be frisked at entry points.
Speaking about Para-military forces for the approaching International Film Festival of India (IFFI) slated in November-end, SP Deshpande said that the security personnel “might” reduce this year owing to Bihar State elections.
“Goa police normally proposes five companies of Central para-military force for IFFI even as our force including additional manpower is deployed at strategic locations. This time, since Bihar and other places are experiencing elections, most Central security companies have been diverted to these States,” he said.
