For 20 years, no one reaches this way-‘out’ outpost at Arambol

Even as the Prashasan Tumchya Dari ‘initiative’ is on, locals have no way to approach this police outpost in Arambol, with any sense of ease, with no access road; the outpost staff is fully dependent on Pernem Police and even petty complaints are handed over for follow-up

ARAMBOL:  The government, which has been flagging it citizens at their doorstep with Prashasan Tumchya Dari (administration at your doorstep), has failed to construct an access road to the Arambol Police Outpost for the past two decades.

To add to this, the local MLAs and other representatives too have been unsuccessful in solving the issue.

Former sarpanch Daniel D’Souza said, “A dispute between two landowners has kept the police outpost in isolation.”

D’Souza said, “The government has failed to settle the issue between the landlords as MLAs, who have become ministers, too have been unsuccessful.”

Arambol is a famous tourist destination attracting domestic as well as international travellers.

In the absence of an access road, the locals are facing severe hardship in approaching the police outpost at Arambol and to sum it all up, the problems faced by tourists are beyond imagination.

The business activities are directly or indirectly dependent on tourism. Petty crimes such as thefts, brawls, and cheating are common during the peak tourist season and are reported to the police outpost by the public. However, the outpost operates from a school premise which is inaccessible by road. Even two-wheelers cannot reach the site. People, especially tourists, are finding it difficult to locate the premises despite using Google Maps. Despite demands to convert the outpost into a full-fledged police station, providing an access road to the outpost is a priority.

To make matters more, the road leading to the police outpost has been encroached on by cloth vendors. Their hoardings have covered the signboard directing to the police outpost.

The outpost is faced with a staff crunch which has been a cause for concern as the jurisdiction is infamous for drugs and other illegal trades. The outpost staff is fully dependent on the Pernem Police Inspector and Sub Inspector. Even petty complaints are handed over to Pernem Police for follow-up.
