For Arlekar giving grants is a ‘wrong’ decision

PANJIM: Environment Minister Rajendra Arlekar has termed the government’s decision to give grants to English medium primary schools as ‘wrong’.
He stated that grants to English medium primary schools should be stopped and that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar is of the same view on the personal front. “I am of strong opinion that the decision to give grants to English medium primary schools is wrong and it should be withdrawn. Even Parsekar’s personal view is that no grants should be given to them,” Arlekar said.
Arlekar also stated that the pending MoI policy will not come up for any discussion or passing before Goa Legislative Assembly as Parsekar and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar are of the opinion that it should not be tabled in the House.
The minister also denied any rift between the BJP and RSS over the contentious issue but stated that certain individuals may have a difference in opinion.
“There is no conflict between BJP and RSS. Yes, some individuals may have a different opinion. It, however, does not mean all is not well,” he said. He added, “The issue cannot be resolved by arguing or making personal allegations. There is a need for a proper discussion and consultation for which all stakeholders have to be taken into confidence.”
The BJP has been criticised by various organizations including BBSM, RSS and some individuals. Recently RSS Goa Chief Subhash Velinkar alleged that Parrikar, as Goa’s chief minister backstabbed the people by going against the 2012 election promise. The party had retaliated with South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar challenging Velingkar to contest elections.
Arlekar, however, does not support personal attacks and stated, “The party and government need to analyse why such a situation has arisen. Personal target or allegation by BJP on Velingkar is non-acceptable and shameful.”
BJP and RSS share a similar ideology, however, they have different ways to impose or preach it, he said, adding, “Government will soon come out with a proper decision considering the public sentiments.”
