MARGAO: Quepem town for the first time will host the official Carnival celebrations of Government of Goa. The parade will be held on the same day as Margao Carnival.

South Goa Collector convened a meeting to discuss the modalities of organising carnivals in Margao as well as Quepem on the same day. Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Carnival Organising Committees for Quepem and Margao, Deputy Superintendent of Police Quepem Kiran Poduwal, and several others were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Kavlekar announced that Carnival celebrations in Quepem and Margao will be held on the same day. The Collector discussed the traffic plan with Quepem and Margao Carnival committees.

“For the first time, official carnival celebrations will be held in Quepem this time. The parade is scheduled on the same day for convenience of the floats,” Kavlekar said.

“To avoid clash of timings the Carnival Parade of Margao has been proposed and okayed to start between 2.45 pm and 3 pm in the afternoon after which all the floats will make their way to Quepem. Full cooperation from Margao Committee has been extended and the traffic police will take responsibility to reach the floats till the Quepem road,” Kavlekar said.

The Committee of Margao is also going to take technical suggestion to have the Carnival stage in a place where the floats head towards the Quepem road.

Quepem Carnival Committee Chief Sanzil D’Costa said that they would be fine to even start the parade in Quepem at 4.30 in the evening. Margao Carnival Committee Chairman Arthur D’Silva said that they would take the technical suggestions on the erecting the stage.

“Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has made me Carnival Committee chairman because of my performance as the chairman earlier and has agreed for the Margao town route,” D’Silva said.

Sanzil D’Costa informed that 26 wards across the Quepem Constituency will have “Khell” parties. Margao Municipal Council will too have “Khell” across the municipal areas.

Another meeting will be held by the Collector to finalise the routes on which the floats are going to make their way to Quepem.
