MARGAO: Forum for Rights of Children to Education (FORCE) has announced that it will hold its general body meeting on October 9 in Margao and October 10 in Panjim.
The meeting in Margao will held at 3.30 pm in Grace Church hall.
The meetings come a little over two months after parents across Goa brought the State to a standstill to protest the government’s delay in fulfilling its promises regarding the medium of instruction (MoI). Forum for Rights of Children to Education secretary Savio Lopes had also gone on an eight-day hunger strike, which was called off only after the group received written assurances from a group of MLAs that the matter will be placed at the next Assembly session, which will be held only in December.
Forum for Rights of Children to Education members confirmed that MoI matter will be taken up during the general body meeting and that they will hear the members before finalising their course of action.
At the time of calling the strike, FORCE had warned the government against backtracking on its promises and not taking the parents and people for granted.
It maybe recalled that the cabinet, on July 1, 2014, had decided to give grants to English-medium schools, and parents have been demanding that the same be translated into an act without any dilution. They were frustrated with the amount of time and Assembly sessions that passed since that cabinet decision.
