The order from the North Goa District Magistrate states, “The organizers are directed to vacate the Azad Maidan, Panaji before 29/07/2015 as no further extension will be granted.”
Around 800 parents under the banner of FORCE have begun a chain hunger strike at Azad Maidan, demanding that the cabinet decision on grants to English medium schools be enacted into law. Reacting to the notice, FORCE Secretary Savio Lopes said, “We will not stop the agitation. They should tell us the reason why we have to vacate. We request the state government to withdraw the order. It’s up to the government whether they want a peaceful protest or a law and order problem.”
He claimed that he has permission to demonstrate/protest at Azad Maidan from the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the Traffic Cell. “Azad Maidan is notified as a place where one can demonstrate/protest. We have CCP permission for 19 days and have paid Rs 19,000 to take permission.”
He claimed that he will not be responsible for any law and order problem in future if the government fails to withdraw the order.
