VASCO: Foreign currency equivalent to Indian rupees 22,30,610 was seized from four international passenger at Dabolim airport.
The passengers were intercepted based on profiling as they arrived to board an Air Arabia Flight on Saturday. The search of the hand baggage, carried by the passengers, resulted in recovery of foreign currency worth Rs 22,30,610.
The said passengers had been moving suspiciously in departure hall before their check-in formalities and could not give satisfactory answers when confronted by Customs sleuths.
During the questioning by Customs officers, the passengers broke down and confessed that they were trying to smuggle the currency to Sharjah. The currency was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act and FEMA.
