PERNEM: An unidentified decomposed body of a Russian national was removed from a laterite stone quarry at Ashvem, Mandrem on Thursday.
The incident was reported by locals, who had visited the spot, which is a spot for villagers as well as tourists for swimming. According to the police, the foreigner was living in Arambol.
The police removed the body with the help of fire personnel led by sub-officer Prashant Dhargalkar. Later, the police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for post-mortem examination. PSI Vivek Halarnkar is conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar and Pernem Deputy Collector Rohan Kaskar also rushed to the spot and inspected the dangerous condition of the laterite stone quarry and directed the authorities to immediately barricade the spot as a precautionary measure.
