MARGAO: Passengers and pedestrians risk their life on a daily basis, outside Margao Railway Station, since a ‘forest’ has grown on the footpath. The footpath was built by spending lakhs of rupees.
Train passengers, especially tourists are forced to walk on the road with the children and baggage since the footpath has been covered with grass and shrubs.
The pre-monsoon work of trimming the bushes and grass has not been done by the Margao Municipal Council forcing passengers and public to walk on the road.
Dinesh Kakodkar, a resident of Margao stated that when tourists come out of the railway station, they get a bad impression about Goa to see all the bushes and grass growing on the footpath. “The government has spent lakhs of rupees to construct the footpath. It is the duty of every councillor to clean the footpath in their area. When tourists come they have to walk on the main road along with their baggage and children. This poses a major danger of getting hit by vehicles. The footpath has become a forest. People cannot walk on it.”
“There are snakes crawling on the footpath. People are unable to walk on the footpath. Hence they walk on the main road. I appeal to the councillors to do work in their designated wards. They only work 6 months before the election. They don’t do any work for four-and-half years. This is just not correct,” rued Kakodkar.
“From Azad Nagari to the railway station the footpath is blocked. There they keep bikes on the footpath. I have never seen anyone sweeping this area. We have a right to talk. They should either work or resign,” a frustrated Kakodkar said.
