Mapusa: Port Minister Michael Lobo appealed to Chief Minister (CM) Pramod Sawant to resume mining in order to improve the financial situation of the State.
Elaborating how the ban on mining has impacted the State badly, Ports Minister Michael Lobo added, “People of Goa are sad because of the mining closure. North as well as South Goa is affected directly and indirectly due to the mining closure. The case is in the Supreme Court (SC). However, if the SC does not take the case on top immediately, then the CM should take a strong decision to set up a Mining Corporation.”
“I request the CM to take a serious decision to set up the mining corporation and this decision will be supported by the other cabinet members. If the Supreme Court decision is delayed, then the CM should do this and resume mining at the earliest to improve the financial situation of Goa. “If ore is removed with sustainable mining, then the State will make revenue since there is a demand for mining. The CM should have a discussion with the mine owners who have surface right now on how sustainable mining could be restarted in Goa,” he added.
