MARGAO: Refuting allegations made by a panch member, Avinash Sardesai, former Sarpanch of village panchayat Aquem-Baixo claimed that he has done nothing wrong and instead everything was put in place so that corrupt practices are stopped at the panchayat level.
Addressing a press conference at Margao on Monday, he also warned of filing a defamation case against the panch member, Inacio Dias, for making false allegations against him.
“The allegations against me are baseless and misleading, aimed at tarnishing my reputation and integrity,” Sardesai said.
It is pertinent to note that a few days before the no-confidence motion tabled against Sardesai, the BJP-backed Sarpanch of Aquem-Baixo village panchayat was passed and he was voted out of the office.
Dias had accused Sardesai of not taking the other members into confidence and for also allegedly keeping them in the dark about a court-related matter. Besides he had alleged that outgoing Sarpanch had issued an occupancy certificate for a certain project even though the members had requested to keep the NOC for the project on hold. Sardesai has refuted the allegation.
