MARGAO: The Special Court, Margao hearing the Canacona building collapse case on Thursday remanded arrested former Canacona Municipal Chief Officers Dipak Desai and Pradeep Naik to 10 days police custody.
The duo was produced before Special Judge Nutan Sardesai by a Crime Branch team headed by DySP Sammy Tavares. Both were later escorted back in two police vehicles.
Special Public Prosecutor Adv Rajiv Gomes said the Court has remanded both Dipak Desai and Pradeep Naik to 10 days police custody for the purpose of further investigations.
He pointed out that the police would utilise the remand period to unearth incriminating facts from the two former CMC COs which could lead to the arrest of many more persons. “Right now we have not identified any other official for interrogation in the case. Whether the Crime branch would summon or arrest any other official depends on the interrogation of Dipak and Pradeep by the police”, Adv Gomes said.
Replying to a question, he finally expressed his satisfaction that investigations into the Canacona building collapse case are now on the right track. “The police have formed a core team to lay their hands on the builders. The team has also visited Mumbai in search of them”, he said, while expressing satisfaction over the progress of the probe.
