Former Karnataka chief minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Thursday. He was accused of allegedly harassing a minor at his residence in Bengaluru last month.
Yediyurappa, 81 years of age, was booked after a woman lodged a complaint at Sadashivnagar Bengaluru police station.
The women alleged that she along with her minor daughter visited his residence on February 2 seeking justice in a rape case against her daughter and sought that a special investigation team be formed to look into the case.
She further stated that that Yediyurappa allegedly took the minor to a room, closed the door and sexually harassed her.
when confronted Yediyurappa, he said that he was checking if the girl was raped or not, said the woman in the FIR. However, Yediyurappa later allegedly apologised and asked the woman not to reveal the matter to anyone, she added.
the former chief minister calimed that the girl came to him seeaking help with some cases of cheating. However, she did not speak to him properly which gave him the idea that she may not be mentally sound, he added.
yrdiyutappa’s office has rubbished the allegations as baseless and further brought to light the mother and daughter of filling over 50 complaints in the past. A list was also put up by the Yediyurappas office showing 53 different complaints filled before by the duo.
The Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru have registered a case under Section 8 (commit sexual assault) of the Pocso Act and Section 354 (a) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation in the case is on.
