Former Minister Alina springs a surprise, joins Congress

PANJIM: In a surprise turn of events, former Minister Alina Saldanha on Saturday joined the Congress party.

She was admitted into the party by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar in the presence of other party leaders and her supporters.

After joining the Congress, Alina recalled her younger days when Congress was ruling the State. She said that during Congress regime there was law and order, peace and friendship among various communities. Goa was an example to other States of the country. There was law and order and sincerity at every level.

She said that as time went by somehow the peace that Goa was known for was slowly disturbed and various anti-Goa and anti-people projects that Goa cannot contain like double tracking were brought. She hoped that both the Congress MPs will fight against it and put an end to it.

Alina said that she will work for the victory of both the Congress candidates and hoped that both will raise the issues of the State in Parliament.

She said both will ensure that there is proper administration, development and sincerity at every level of functioning. Both the Congress MPs will do justice to faith and trust reposed by people of Goa.

Ahead of 2022 Assembly elections, Alina quit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She however lost in Cortalim constituency on AAP symbol. Later in February this year she resigned from AAP stating that the party had failed to raise local issues concerning the people in the State.
