Former minister Usgaonkar dies at 92

PONDA: Former Pale MLA and Minister Achyut Kashinath Sinai Usgaonkar died at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, due to age-related ailments, on Tuesday morning.

He was 92 years old and is survived by three daughters, including noted film actor Varsha Usgaonkar. Before serving as a minister, Achyut was the Deputy Speaker of Goa during the Dayanand Bandodkar-led government.

He also served as a cabinet minister in the then Shashikala Kakodkar Government of Goa, Daman and Diu. Final rites performed at St Inez Crematorium.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant condole the death of former minister Usgaonkar. The Chief Minister said his contribution will always be remembered and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
