PANJIM: Former Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
Sawal said that he will consult his workers, supporters and well-wishers before deciding further course of action, within next eight days.
In his resignation letter submitted to MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar, Sawal stated, “The MGP’s organisation has failed to perform its activities from top to grassroot levels. The people have lost their faith and hope in the organisation.”
To a question about his future plans, Sawal said he wished to contest Lok Sabha elections and will decide on which party to contest from after consulting his workers and supporters.
Sawal unsuccessfully contested on MGP ticket twice in 2017 and 2022 Goa Assembly polls.
Reacting to Sawal’s resignation, MGP president Dhavlikar said that his party belongs to the BahujanSamaj and Sawal’s exit will not impact the party in any way.
Power Minister SudinDhavalikar said, “It is unfortunate that a good worker has left MGP. There are many who left one party and joined another for better prospects. My wishes are always with him. I do not know whether his resignation has been accepted or not. I respect his decision. Party’s progress does not depend only on Dhavalikar brothers. Everybody should work. I do not have a comment on the party’s stagnation but I can say that if the party has to move forward then everybody needs to work.”
