MARGAO, SEPT 10
The Nuvem Civic and Consumer Forum have proposed to the government to build a well designed flyover from Nuvem-Arlem bypass junction to Agnel Ashram, Verna.
Expressing optimism that the flyover would solve the problems faced by the Nuvem villagers, Forum Convenor Olencio Fernandes said the National highway authorities would not hesitate to opt for the flyover since the financial implications will be much less than that of the Dona Paula sea link.
He pointed out that Survey conducted by NCCF in February 2009, reveals that 5,979 students (Mae dos Pobres H School 750; Carmel College and Carmel Higher Secondary 1,275; Holy Rosary Convent High School 700, I.A.M. Catering College 150; Agnel Ashram Primary KG 535; Secondary 616; Higher Secondary 331; Polytechnic 662; Padre Conceicao College of Engineering 960 – plus teachers/Lecturers plus non teaching staff and others use the highway.
He said the stretch is used by public, devotees, funeral processions, entertainment venues, business establishments – and will be used by massive My Eye Hospital once it is commissioned.
“There are 31 cross roads linked to the residences of the villagers and to the developed colonies – they find extremely difficult to have access to NH-17. Moreover, in the event of emergency, there is no way to rush to the hospital”, he added.
