Foundation finally laid for Mapusa bus stand

MAPUSA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone for the interim Mapusa Bus stand project in presence of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, former councillors and citizens on Wednesday. The work of the interim Mapusa Bus stand will be taken up under GSIDC.

Stating that the project work will complete before monsoon, MLA Joshua D’Souza said, “The estimated cost of the project is Rs 3.31 crore and work of the project will complete in the next six months. This work will include bus stand with provision of KTC office, drivers room, canteen, kitchen area, toilet block, parking for 11 tempos, parking bays for 50 buses, shed for the travellers, parking area for 44 four wheelers and parking for 64 two wheelers and 15 rickshaws along with high mast light”.

“We have kept provision of separate 7-metre road to the market yard adjacent to the bus stand,” he added.

“Once upon a time, Mapusa was the financial capital of Goa since Mapusa market was biggest market but due to lack of basic facilities, the market is going down. Our government is working on providing these basic facilities for Mapusa. Provision of toilet facilities for the travellers will be also made available and commuters will not face the problem of shelter during the monsoon. Also soon the second phase that is the work of the main bus stand will be also taken up,” Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said.

“Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goa concept will soon commence in Municipal areas. This concept has already started in Panchayat areas. With this concept, people all over Goa will move forward towards being Swayampurn. Government will try to give justice to everyone,” CM added.
