MARGAO, NOV 13
There’s good news in store for artisans and Self Help Groups in the state.
Rural Development Agency Minister, Churchill Alemao has said the government would lay the foundation stone for the Rs 15 crore Goa Bazaar building at Panjim on December 3.
He said the project spread across a sprawling land admeasuring 20,000 sq meters at Merces will be completed by December 19, 2011.
The Goa Bazaar will have numerous stalls which will be utilized for display of items prepared by the artisans and Self Help Groups, he added.
Briefing newsmen, Alemao said the central government had sanctioned crores of rupees to set up the Goa Bazaar building and the amount was unutilized for a long period in view of a dispute over the land. “The land was acquired for the RDA building and to set up a Colony for Judges. Since the Judges are now asking for the facility at Porvorim, decks have now been cleared for the setting up of the RDA building, which will house the Goa Bazaar”, he added.
Alemao said the project, once it takes concrete shape, would help the Self Help Groups and would be an attraction for the tourists visiting the state.
On the Self Help Groups, Alemao said that around 20-25 SHGs have been formed in his Navelim constituency, adding that he would give money for these groups to help them stand on their legs.
