MARGAO: The government on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the 1.97 crore Sanskruti bhavan on the picturesque Barada hill in Velim village.
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) which has undertaken the work of construction of 30 Sanskruti bhavans for the Department of Tribal Welfare, said the Baradi project will benefit the residents of Baradi as the hall would serve a community of 1700 persons and is ideal as a marriage hall, community activities, cultural functions etc.
Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado who laid the foundation stone in the presence of Velim MLA Benjamin D’silva, Velim Sarpanch Melvyn Sanches, Fr Carlisto Coelho and others, said the Sanskruti bhavan will help the local people to hold cultural activities, awareness program , seminars etc.
In his address, the Velim MLA thanked the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar and Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawdakar for sanctioning the bhavan to Baradi. “Fr Carlisto Coelho along with the Baradi Chapel committee had requested for help to build a community hall at the Chapel. When I took up the matter the government, the Chief Minister was prompt in clearing the proposal”, Benjamin said. He reminded the people that this is the second major project initiated in Velim constituency after last week’s water supply scheme at Ambelim.
The hall at Baradi will be located within the compound of St Cruz Chapel atop the hillock. The project is expected to be completed within nine months. The site is designed for vehicular movement and parking of additional 50 cars benefiting the hall as well as the Chapel. Site illumination and landscaping has been proposed in the project.
