PONDA: On the occasion of Dussehra, Marcaim MLA and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Sudin Dhavalikar as promised to flood victim laid foundation stone for house construction of Zalmi family at Murdi-Khandepar, which was washed away due to flooding of Khandepar River on July 23, on Friday.
He was accompanied by Dr Ketan Bhatikar, Ponda Municipal Council councillors, Zilla Panchayat member Priya Chari and flood victim family. It may be recalled that Ponda Taluka was affected due to flood and several houses were washed away.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone, Dhavalikar said, “Soon I will lay foundation stone for construction of one house in Sanquelim Constituency. MGP was formed for the upliftment of the downtrodden people and so it is responsibility to work for the welfare of people in distress.”
The Ponda Taluka Disaster Management team inspection report has revealed that on July 23 flood, 21 families became homeless with houses found fully damaged, 95 were partly damaged, while 310 were partly submerged under water. Altogether, total flood affected houses were 426 causing loss to the tune of several crores. Usgao-Ganjem and Khandepar were the worst hit.
