PANJIM: In the next six months, Panjimites will be gifted with a recreation zone, located a little away from the Joggers Park at Altinho, as 2,400 sq metres open space is being developed as a recreation and relaxation centre for residents.
The project, budgeted at around Rs 73 lakh is part of development work by the Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Ltd under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, after laying the foundation stone for the project on Friday, said that along with bigger tasks such as water supply, sewerage, and infrastructure, recreational space is a public need. “In my earlier tenure Joggers Park was built. Smaller spaces will be utilised and developed into gardens or relaxation centers wherein families can spend quality time together.”
The project, which is situated close to the large jogging park, is intended to be a ‘pause’ space or space for relaxed seating.
The open space will primarily be hard landscaped with peripheral plants and trees, specifically chosen as it would have low maintenance, whereas the large rain tree existing on the site is to be used as a central landscaping feature.
“The stepped seating under the trees would be topped with polished black granite finish. Ambient lighting has been proposed to make the open space safe at night and a footpath near the IPHB complex is proposed for safety of pedestrians,” says a statement issued by Smart City Development Ltd.
