Four alleged pimps arrested for sex racket; six girls rescued

MAPUSA: The Calangute Police busted a sex racket by arresting four and rescuing six victims at Baga and Porvorim in the wee hours of Saturday. Two cars, four mobile phones and cash of around Rs 1,94,500 was seized from the possession of the accused.
All the rescued victims were medically examined at the Primary Health Centre, Candolim; thereafter, they were sent to the State Protective Home at Merces.
In this connection an offence under Section 370 of IPC and Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act has been registered against the accused.
Three of the accused are from Delhi, namely Jitender Singh (25), Vijay Kumar Sonkar (36), Khemathraj Mehr, (25) and the fourth one Manoranjan Rao (32) is a resident of Mangalore.
The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Mapusa who remanded them in police custody till coming Thursday.
The raiding team comprised of PSI Jatin Potdar, Constables Vinod Naik, Vinay Shrivastav, Dinesh Morajkar, Mhableshwar Sawant, Manoj Naik, Suresh Naik, lady constables Mithila Bayekar, Deepali Harmalkar, Mamta Gaude and Tara Kerkar of NGO Savera.
Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo is investigating the case.
