PONDA: Four cattle died while a calf escaped with minor injuries after being hit by an unknown heavy vehicle near Bhagwati temple along the national highway at Dhavali in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The locals demanded that the police conduct a thorough inquiry and nab the accused driver.
According to them, the cattle squat on the road at night and there is no proper illumination as some street lights have been rendered non-functional. The bodies of stray cattle were buried by the locals.
The locals said after the construction of the four-lane highway the vehicles move at high speeds and at night the highway plunges into darkness on account of the non-functional streetlights which results in accidents.
