Margao: The four-day carnival revelry at Opinion Poll Square, Margao will be launched on March 2 from 7 pm onwards and on all four days the road from Old Market Circle to the Fatorda Stadium will remain closed for vehicular traffic from 6 pm onwards.Margao Municipal Council chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai is the ex-officio Chairperson of the Margao Carnival Committee while Roussel Miranda as chairman will be co-ordinating the four day programme that will focus on Goa and Goanness. On the first day prominent bands from Goa will perform live and these include Forefront, Archies, Ragas to Riches, and Crown Tree a band brought from Bangalore. Besides, there will be international Samba dancers performing live. “The first day programme is a joint collaboration with We For Fatorda Trust,” said Roussel. The traditional Carnival float parade will be held on March 3 and will start from the Old market circle at 4 pm and end at the Football Stadium and after the parade is over the crowd will be entertained by bands Sky High, Pure Magic and Purple Rain. On Monday March 4 there will be a fancy dress competition in two categories which will start at 7 pm and the two categories are 10 years and below and those above 10 years. Once this competition is over the crowd will be entertained by Tidal Wave and Bandwagon. On Tuesday March 5 will be dedicated to Konkani musical programme and traditional dances while later in the evening Juke Box, Wings and Truly Us will entertain the crowd,There will be 20 stalls put up on the footpath in front of Ravindra Bhavan where 12 starred hotels from Goa will be serving their choicest dishes at a reasonable rate besides having traditional Goan savories for sale.In keeping with the Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar’s advice to enjoy feni for carnival, Cajulo will be serving lip smacking feni cocktails and in fact last year this feni stall was a big hit. Rs. 27,35,000 will be distributed as prize money at Margao in the traditional float, club/institution float, fun junk, family and clown/joker categories with there being five best prizes and five consolation prizes in each category.
