Four Goa-bound vehicles damaged near Jamboti

BELGAUM: The strike against Goa's entry tax took a violent turn when agitating transporters damaged four Goa-bound vehicles near Jamboti along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla late Monday night.

BELGAUM: The strike against Goa’s entry tax took a violent turn when agitating transporters damaged four Goa-bound vehicles near Jamboti along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla late Monday night.
According to reliable sources, stones were pelted at these vehicles carrying limestone, dolomite, vegetables and other goods to Goa at around 12 am on Monday. Sources said these vehicles were heading to Goa, taking advantage of the night.
While there was no casualty reported, the windscreens of these vehicles were reportedly damaged.
When contacted, Khanapur CPI Mahanteshwara confirmed the incident near Kusmalli between Jamboti and Kankumbi but added that no complaint was lodged in Khanapur police station till late Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, G R Shanmugappa, president of Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners & Agents Association, told Herald that he interacted with the managing director of Karnataka Milk Federation to support the strike by transporters by stopping their milk supplies to Goa. 
The president of Kolhapur District Lorry Owners’ Association added that milk suppliers in Kolhapur region have also been informed to stop milk supplies to Goa.
