Four Goans die in accident at Sankeshwar

PANJIM: Four Goans travelling to Kolhapur were killed on the spot and four others were seriously injured after the car in which they were travelling hit the rear of a truck near the Masoba-Hitni Cross on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway No 4 at Sankeshwar in Belgavi district of Karnataka early Saturday morning.

PANJIM: Four Goans travelling to Kolhapur were killed on the spot and four others were seriously injured after the car in which they were travelling hit the rear of a truck near the Masoba-Hitni Cross on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway No 4 at Sankeshwar in Belgavi district of Karnataka early Saturday morning.
Police said the speeding car, which was on its way from Panjim to Kolhapur, has been totally damaged with the impact.
According to sources three persons were killed on the spot, including a woman, while the fourth succumbed to injuries on the way to the government hospital in Sankeshwar town. The deceased have been identified as Girish Salgaonkar (30), Matsyagandha Dhananjay Narverkar (33) and Santosh Naik (37). All three died on the spot. Dhananjay Narvekar (42) breathed his last on the way to the hospital.
A case has been registered with Sankeshwar Police station and relatives of the deceased were being informed, the police statement said.  
Four other passengers of the ill-fated car suffered injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary for post mortem, police said.
