Four Goans killed in Dharwad mishap

BELGAUM: A pilgrimage to Yelamma Devi Temple, about 50 kms in Belgaum district, ended in tragedy for Goan families, when two people died, while 11 others were injured in a road accident at the Mandyal railway crossing near Alnavar-Dharwad, about 25 kms from Dharwad.

BELGAUM: A pilgrimage to Yelamma Devi Temple, about 50 kms in Belgaum district, ended in tragedy for Goan families, when two people died, while 11 others were injured in a road accident at the Mandyal railway crossing near Alnavar-Dharwad, about 25 kms from Dharwad. 
According to reports, the accident took place when their tempo rammed into an oncoming lorry, killing two persons on the spot, while injuring 11 others. According to Dharwad Police, Parvati Gavas and one more person died in a hospital in Goa. 
Police said Ankush Gavas, Bhanudas Pawar, Archana Gavas, Dharma Gavas, Rukmini Gavas, Vithoba R Gavas, Sudhir Gavas, Bhagirathi Pednekar, Rukmini Pawar, Vasudev Korgaokar and Umesh Gavas were seriously injured in the accident that took place on Sunday at about 2.30 pm. 
Collem correspondent adds: A motorcycle rider was injured in a road accident at Gholwada-Poriem. According to Collem Police, Ravindra Hungle complained that he was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-04-9707) when a jeep (GA-01-J-4293) which was proceeding from Sanquelim to Poriem knocked him down. The motorcycle rider sustained fracture to his leg. 
Vasco correspondent adds: A scooterist was injured after he was knocked down by a car at Zuarinagar. According to Verna Police, the car was proceeding from MES College to airport highway when it dashed against the oncoming scooter (GA-06-D-3825). The scooterist sustained injuries, while the car driver fled from the spot.
