MARGAO: Margao police on Sunday night arrested four accused, including a minor, all hailing from Karnataka, for their alleged involvement in a theft case.
The complaint in this regard was filed by Omprakash Soni, a native Uttar Pradesh but who is presently residing at Nessai.
While the minor has been referred to Apna Ghar, Merces, one of the accused, Sameer Bepari, who was thrashed by the public after he was apprehended is presently admitted at the Hospicio Hospital in Margao, undergoing treatment.
The other two accused Manjunath alias Zafar and Sayad Sab Guttal have been remanded to four days police custody after being produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao on Monday.
In his complaint Soni has stated that on March 16, he and Umashankar were returning to Nessai after work finished at around 4 pm. He stated that they reached near the Margao railway station at around 6 pm and were walking towards the station and were under the overhead bridge.
Once they were underneath the flyover, Soni was hit by a stone on the head that was thrown by some unknown person who then assaulted Soni and took away Rs 1050 from his pocket, while a second accused unknown assaulted Umashankar with punches to the face and removed Rs 600 for his pocket.
As the two raised the alarm and cried for help, locals rushed to their aid and managed to nab the four assailants, who were given a good thrashing before being handed over to the police.
Further investigation is in progress.
