PONDA: High drama prevailed on Borim Bridge Friday morning when police faced tough time to save a youth from committing suicide. Finally Team of Ponda Police and Fire personnel and locals rescued the youth after four hours of great effort.
The youth was apparently mentally disturbed with problems in life and he was almost at edge of bridge in jumping position, when police, fire personnel gathered to save him. The rescue boat and machinery was deployed in water below the bridge to save his life in case he jumps into river. According to Locals the Pune-based 32-year-old youth had arrived at the Borim Bridge at 10.30 am on Friday. He climbed the 2 meter height railing and got down on edge of bridge with almost in position to jump into river just when passerby saw him and tried to persuade him while some informed the Police following which PSI Rashmi Baidkar and Police team reached the spot.
Finally a Pune based priest staying at Bethora who was going towards Margao had dialogue with him in Marathi and convinced him how life is precious and that problems can be sorted out. Similarly a Fire Personnel Staff convinced him how all problems could be sorted out with right approach. Finally The Mina Police took custody of rescued youth.
