CALANGUTE, JULY 18
Four labourers were injured when a compound collapsed at Cobra Vaddo, Calangute on Saturday evening.
Nine labourers were laying the PWD water pipeline when the compund wall collapsed at around 6.30 pm. Four labourers were injured while the others were lucky to escape unhurt.
One of the four injured labourers one struggled for almost 30 minutes, before he was finally rescued by locals.
The injured labourers were moved to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Fire brigades from Mapusa and Panaji rushed to the site, while a Calangute Police team led by Police Inspector Devendra Gad, also went to the accident site.
The PWD was in the process of laying a new water pipeline for residents of Cobra Vaddo, Calangute and the work was nearing completion.
While the property owner, Rosario Fernandes, has estimated the damage at Rs 50,000, he was relieved that the labourers had been rescued from the debris.
