PANJIM: Controversies galore, right from fights to murders and lot of anti-social activities have dogged the Colvale jail but neither the inmates nor the staff have learnt any lessons from the past.
This time four officials of the Central jail, Colvale have been placed under suspension for permitting jail inmates to use firecrackers and burn the effigy of Ravana in the prison premises as part of Dussehra festival celebration.
Inspector General of Prisons has suspended an assistant superintendent, two jailors and one assistant jailor for dereliction of their duties. The IG (Prisons) has also sought explanation from the officials concerned regarding the incident.
The action was initiated after a video of the celebrations went viral on social media.
