Four-lane road, underpass proposed at Manaswada-Kundaim junction: Minister

Inspects the accident-prone junction along with NHAI CE, Kundaim sarpanch and locals

PONDA: Co-operation Minister and Priol MLA Govind Gaude on Saturday said to make Manaswada-Kundaim junction accident-free, a four-lane road and an underpass have been proposed with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) authorities to prevent accidents at the spot.

He was speaking during an inspection of the accident-prone Manaswada-Kundaim Junction along with NHAI CE Mahesh Kulkarni, Kundaim Panchayat Sarpanch Ramu Naik and the locals.

The inspection comes after a news report appeared on Herald dated June 13, wherein the locals urged the government to find solution to the increasing number of accidents at the junction. It may be recalled that two days ago, a car driver died on the spot in a truck collision at the junction.

Gaude said after discussing with NHAI officials and the locals, he said, “The existing one-way road at Kundaim stretch will be made access or service road to Kundaim village, while the other one-way passing from upper side will be widened into four-lane road.”

Further, he said, “The bus stop at Manaswada junction will be shifted 100 metres away to avoid accidents. The issue has been discussed with the Chief Minister during his earlier visit to Kundaim and there is constant follow up with NHAI officials. The alignment has been finalised at Kundaim stretch.”

He said, “The police will be temporarily deployed at the junction. Rumbler strips, speed breakers, signboard and all other traffic safety measures will be taken till NHAI begins the road improvement work.”
